RETHINKING YOUTH MINISTRY AT CPARL - FALL 2025
In the Catholic Church, formation has often focused too much on instruction. While catechesis is essential, the traditional approach, which frequently relies on memorization, textbooks, and classroom-style programs, usually falls short. These methods don’t always meet people where they are. At its core, Christianity is about a relationship with Jesus. When we remove real community from formation, the Gospel can start to feel distant and uninspiring.
 
Instead of just teaching facts, we need to help young people grow in their identity as members of a faith-filled community. People learn best when they feel a sense of belonging. When that community becomes like a tribe, deeply connected and united in purpose, it shapes who they are. This belonging leads to transformation, not just the acquisition of information.
 
That’s why we’re partnering with Andrew Ministries to develop a new model of youth ministry at CPARL. They’ve helped parishes build strong youth ministries by recognizing that the Church already has faithful adults ready to serve. These adults can serve as mentors, walking alongside young people in small groups and helping them grow in their faith. We’re working to identify, train, and support these mentors here at CPARL so that more of our young people can connect with living witnesses to the Gospel.
